PWT China stage 1
The first individual race of this years PWT China was ran today in the Beijing Botanical Garden. The winners of the 1st stage were Maja Alm (DEN) and Johan Runesson (SWE).
Beijing Botanical Garden offered a pleasant surrounding for the first race. Along with a typical autumn weather, the scent and rich colors of different flowers and trees were a pleasure for all senses. Course setter Jaroslav Kacmarcik had created nice courses to the northern part of the park with varying elements that required accurate navigation.

It was no surprise that Maja Alm (DEN) was was the fastest woman, but the following positions would have been difficult to guess before the race. Almost 50 seconds down, it was Alice Leake (GBR) who was second, a mere 8 seconds in front of of Huao Shuang (CHI). Among top 10, it was eight different nationalities.

In the men's class it was a lot less obvious winner as Johan Runesson (SWE) - better known for his success in the forest - beat all the rest. 9 seconds down, it was a really tight struggle from the second place as Yannick Michiels (BEL) won Peter Hodkinson (GBR) by just 0,4 seconds. In the men's top 10 it was all different nations, representing the international flavor of PWT.

We asked the winners about their race:
-Johan: I had no mistakes, a really good race. When I saw the map, I was a little surprised how much white there was on the map, but then decided to be just more careful. This kind of sprint with some middle distance character suits me better than sprints on a more build environment.

-Maja: My race was not perfect, but ok anyway. I made one clear mistake - at one point I saw the girl starting before me and that made me do a small mistake there. I expected more park, but found it was more a mix of park and forest. You needed to focus all the time to not lose map contact.
